Working Together With Elders
The NWT Seniors’ Society is pleased to be hosting a pan-territorial project that aims to decrease social isolation of NWT elders.
We are working with community facilitators from 11 NWT communities including:

The community facilitators reach out to elders and offer activities for the elders. An Elders’ Council helps the project to stay culturally safe and relevant.
The project has a Leadership Team made up of representatives from the NWT Recreation and Parks, NWT Literacy Council, Aurora College, Paul Andrew (respected elder) and Alberta and NWT Alzheimer’s Society.
The NWT Seniors’ Society is the backbone organization, and the project coordinator is Kassandra Spoelder.
This guide brings together the information that made up the orientation and training for the community facilitators. It will be useful for any community planning to organize events for elders.
The project is funded by New Horizons for Seniors Program with the Government of Canada until 2024.
